Directed by François Ozon and based on Albert Camus' iconic 1942 novel, this black-and-white drama blends existential reflection, crime, and courtroom tension into a visually striking cinematic experience. Ozon's adaptation — the first French-language film version of the novel — was approved and supported by Catherine Camus, daughter of the author, who read the screenplay and contributed contextual insight into the circumstances of the work's creation. The film shoot took place in Morocco, with Tangier standing in for Algiers, and features a score by composer Fatima Al Qadiri.
